Bamboo and Tikis Harmonizes with Local Children
Bamboo and Tikis appreciates the community in which we operate and will happily help out when and where we are able. That is why when Volunteer San Diego staged its 2010 service weekend this past October 8-9th, we were happy to help with one of Harmonium’s seven Serve-A-Thon projects.
Harmonium operates local educational and counseling programs that promote well-being and education among children, teens and adults. They offer everything from innovative children’s day care to test prep and enrichment activities for young adults to parent-to-parent programs and therapy. In order to accomplish their mission to “promote physical, mental and emotional well-being,” Harmonium conceived and executed seven different projects within southeast San Diego, including revamping and rejuvenating several play areas, gardens and outdoor kitchens.
Bamboo and Tikis was able to be a part of the revitalization of the “Baby Bloomer Garden and Playground” with the donation of 20 rolls of our natural, black and mahogany rolled bamboo fencing. The fencing was an integral part in making the playground look and feel more natural, safe and friendly by camouflaging an otherwise harsh chain link fence.
In addition to the Baby Bloomer Playground, Bamboo and Tikis bamboo fencing can be seen at the nearby Balboa Elementary School. The Balboa project was also a part of the Service Weekend and Bamboo and Tikis is proud to say there was enough bamboo fencing to go around.
In part because of Bamboo and Tikis efforts to be part of the community, these two play areas are now used every day by children and families in the San Diego area. Bamboo and Tikis would like to thank Harmonium and Volunteer San Diego for allowing us to be a part of such a wonderful project. Harmonium’s core values of “respect, self-sufficiency, creativity and continuous improvement” are just a few of the morals that Bamboo and Tikis hopes to promote throughout our community.
