Create a Tropical Halloween Scare-Ground

Along with cooler airs and the gentle fall of leaves, Halloween is first holiday to remind us that Autumn is officially here.  This season create an island theme to compliment your Halloween festivities that will have ghouls and goblins lining up at your door.

A Glowing Scare

Lighting is one of the key elements in setting the mood for any occassion.  Though Halloween may be about scary things that go bump in the night, a flickering candle or soft lit lanterns can also create a haunting tone.  Jack-O-Lanterns (carved pumpkins) work perfectly for invitingly lighting up pathways, staircases, or grassy lawns.   If you plan on having a dinner party, line your area with stringed lights or pair candelabras at the ends of your table for a beautiful and gothic table setting.

For those concerned about safety or fire hazards, many party themed stores carry faux candles and lanterns as well.

A Haunting Atmosphere

Whenever planning a design theme, the easiest place to start is with a color scheme.  Though what we're planning is a tropical Halloween, you can start with traditional colors such as Black and Orange.  From there you can start adding splashes of yellow, red and brown.

Use pottery or large containers to evaporate dry ice to create a witch's cauldron or to dispel dense fog across the ground.  You can also use bamboo fencing or thatch to instantly dress up your backyard with tropical flavor, or even provide a place to hang warning signs and drape cobwebs from.

The Fun

To create the soundtrack to the evening, try picking up some Halloween inspired Hawaiian music that will combine island sounds with ghoulish flare.  To incorporate the kids and adults, try putting a spin on classic party games such as a goblin scavenger hunt, carving pumpkins, or twisted twister.

This Halloween add some spice to your party spells by creating an island retreat that will have guests dying to stay.
