Plan a Powerhouse of a Pre-game Party

Attending a tailgate party is one of the best parts of the fall season, coming in second only to the football games themselves. With the thrill of the first weekend of football behind us, now is the time to start planning the parties for the rest of the season. So wether you are planning a shindig for 20 people in the parking lot or simply taking a friend or two to the game this weekend, here are a few quick tips for a happy and safe tailgate party.

Food. Typical tailgating essentials include anything that can be grilled. Burgers, hot dogs and pork chops are traditional fan favorites, but even vegetarians can get in on the fun with grilled vegetables and grilled cheese sandwiches. When purchasing food and drinks, make sure you buy enough for everyone, but also take into account that you will have to leave or toss whatever you don't eat. Meat and cheese spoils pretty quickly, so try to keep excess to a minimum on those items.

Seating. Bring chairs. They may take up a lot of space in the car or trunk, but it will be worth it. Have your friends bring their own chairs if you don't have enough. Anything works - beach chairs, lawn chairs, folding chairs or even stools will be welcome investments. Spending hours standing or running around in the parking lot can be exhausting and your feet will appreciate the rest. Don't forget you will be standing for a lot of the game to; game time is not the time for taking a load off.

Entertainment. Bring a football to entertain yourself and your kids before and after the game. Throwing the ball around is a great way to get excited for the game and everyone can participate. Then after the game you can throw it around in the parking lot while you wait for traffic to clear out. Additionally, make sure you have a working radio to listen to the other games or even a TV and a generator so you can stay connected.

With these three essential components, you are sure to throw a successful tailgate. Make sure everyone is decked out in their finest sports paraphernalia to ensure maximum enjoyment. Remember, at a sporting event, there is no such thing as excess when it comes to team logo swag. So bring on the face paint, flags, beer coozies and temporary tattoos and go support the team in style.
