Bamboo is a beautiful yet durable which makes it a perfect material for high traffic products! Add a sleek and professional office bamboo chair-mat that comes in  various sizes and colors. As you read this article, you are probably sitting in front of a computer and/or using a mouse and keyboard. Have you ever thought about what happens to these devices when they break or become obsolete? What did you do with your old computer when you upgraded? Technological hardware is often “made to break” and has to be replaced often; hardware recycling centers are sometimes difficult to find and usually operate during weird hours; so most hardware winds up in a landfill where it can take anywhere from 420-1000 years to biodegrade.

Last year’s United Nations Climate Conference at Copenhagen was marked by high hopes, stubborn dissention and general chaos. This year, in Cancun, Mexico, the meetings seem to be mostly characterized by low expectations and a sense of calm. In fact, the Conference is so low-key, it has failed to garner any attention from local or national news sources, as compared to 2009 when scenes of angry protesters and delegate walkouts dominated the television, newspapers and blogosphere.

These days, it seems like everything can be made from bamboo. From fencing and statues, to bikes and computer accessories, to clothes and shoes, just about anything can be made using mature bamboo stalks, bamboo fiber or bamboo leaves. Recently, Dell Incorporated has increased the already lengthy list of bamboo uses with its creation of bamboo packaging.

Outdoor Rooms, is a special interest publication for Better Homes and Gardens, and their theme for this summer is "Take a Vacation in Your Own Backyard." In their summer issue they provided a "Passport to Style" for creating themed backyards that are serene, have that Polynesian pop, and of course all things tropical and tiki-fied.

"My favorite time of year to entertain is summer.  A barefoot and blue jeans sort of girl, I would much rather wave the neighbors over for a spur-of-the-moment glass of wine on the front porch or serve a picnic-style supper for my family on the deck than put a lot of planning and primping into a fancy dining room affair.  Backyards cater to impromptu entertaining."

Q: Why did you attend the Home and Garden Show?
A: We had just closed on our new home and we wanted to get some new ideas about what we could do as far as decorating the place.  This was the first Home and Garden show we had ever attended.

As a member of the California Landscape Contractor's Association, Bamboo and Tikis will be attending the CLCA Industry Show.

All over the news and media recently is the disaster that has struck Haiti just around the Port-Au-Prince area.  An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the richter scale has left what is feared to be thousands dead and many more homeless and in devastation.  Homes, buildings, roadways and more have been destroyed and the country is in a severe state of emergency.
